How To Install Windows Via Oracle Virtual Box

Virtual Box Overview
VirtualBox is a powerful x86 and AMD64/Intel64 virtualization product for enterprise as well as home use. Not only is VirtualBox an extremely feature rich, high performance product for enterprise customers, it is also the only professional solution that is freely available as Open Source Software under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 3. Presently, VirtualBox runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, and Solaris hosts and supports a large number of guest operating systems including but not limited to Windows (NT 4.0, 2000, XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7, 8, Windows 10 and Windows 11), DOS/Windows 3.x, Linux (2.4, 2.6, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x and 6.x), Solaris and OpenSolaris, OS/2, OpenBSD, NetBSD and FreeBSD.


VirtualBox is being actively developed with frequent releases and has an ever growing list of features, supported guest operating systems and platforms it runs on. Here’s how you can install another virtual operating system i.e. Microsoft Windows 7 or different windows 10 within an already installed operating system i.e. Windows 10.

First, make sure you have an ISO image file of your desired operating system i.e. windows 7.iso or Win10_Pro_1607_English_x64_Aug_2016.iso. You can either make one using Rufus from your operating system DVD or simply grab it from any torrent.

1. Lunch Oracle VM VirtualBox. Click New button.


2.Type in your desired name of the new operating system. Click Next.


3. Either accept the default Memory size or increase it depending on how much memory you have left for your main system. Click Next.


4. Accept default “Create a virtual hard disk now” option and click “Create” button to continue.


5. For the Hard disk file type, select “VDI” and click Next button.


6. Select “Dynamically allocated” option for “Storage on physical hard disk” and click “Next” button to continue.


7. In “File location and size” screen, select default 32GB and select “Create” button.


8. Select "Settings".


9. Click “Storage” on the left menu and click the “Optical Drive” button marked as “Empty” and select “Choose Virtual Optical Disk File” from the Attributes menu icon marked as CD.


10. Browse to the ISO image file of the Windows and click the “Open” button.


11. You will see the Optical Drive marked as “Win10_Pro_1607_English_x64_Aug_2016”. Click OK.


12. Your virtual box Win10_Pro_1607 is ready to be run. Either press the “Start” button or right-click the newly-created virtual box >Start >Normal Start option.



13. Your new operating system Win10 Pro Installation should begin normally.





14. After your Win10_Pro_1607 operating system is up and running, click “Device” on the menu bar and choose Insert Guest Addtions CD image...


15. Double-click “CD Drive (D:) VirtualBox Guest Additions”.


16. Run the file named “VBoxWindowsAdditions” and let the computer reboot after the installation finishes.


17. To share a local folder on your host machine’s OS (Windows 10) with the virtual box machine OS (Win10_Pro_1607), first make the host machine folder accessible by sharing it as below:
Create a new folder. Right-click the folder and select “Properties”.


18. Next, click the “Sharing” tab and press the “Advanced Sharing” button. In the next screen, check-mark the “Share this folder” and click the “Permissions” button and make sure in the “Everyone” group, only “Read” option is unchecked and check-marked. Close all dialog boxes by clicking respective “Apply” and “Ok” buttons.



19. Now, re-start your Win10_Pro_1607 Virtual Box and click the menu option on the top as “Devices” > Shared Folders > Shared Folder Settings.


20. Next, you will see all the current folders shared. You can create a new folder share by clicking the folder plus icon as well.




21. Now, if you open “My computer” folder in your Virtual Machine’s OS Win10_Pro_1607, you should see the shared folder from your host machine (Windows 10).


Note: This tutorial applies on Virtual Box Version 6.0.4. For later or earlier versions, process is pretty much same with a few alternate screens.

2. Extract the downloaded files with WinRar or other.
3. If you want to uninstall previous version, uninstall it with IObit Uninstaller or Revo Uninstaller.
4. To install the software, double click on the setup .exe file, a dialogue box will appear. 
5. Tip I accept the agreement and click Next and click Next following the screen instructions.
6. For more information about a particular app, kindly read the "Readme.txt" file given in the download zip file.
