VMware Workstation Overview
A virtual machine (VM) is a complete computer system which simulates software so that it can run in a completely isolated environment. It provides a safe environment to try out software, and allows you to run a program for a different operating system than your usual.
After setting up VMware Workstation Pro, the steps below show you how to create a virtual guest machine and install Windows on it.
The guest machine will run Windows 7 (8, 10) as if Windows 10 was running on a separate and independent hardware. That’s the magic of virtualization software.

To install Windows 10 on VMware Workstation, follow the steps below: First of all, you need to Enable Hardware Virtualization in the BIOS like below. Normally, it has already been enabled.

Step 1: Setup the Guest Machine
1. Lunch the program and choose Create a new Virtual Machine.
2. Next, select the Typical (recommended) configuration. This option is great for new students or users. If you choose the Typical option, VMware Workstation will attempt to identify the operating you want to install and configures it automatically for you. The Custom (advanced) option lets you customize the installation.
4. VMware will attempt to configure the OS for you. If it can’t identify the operating system you’re installing, it will provide a wizard to follow and configure the guest machine yourself.
5. Accept the default Virtual machine name and location. Or give it something else and save to somewhere else.
6. Accept the default maximum disk storage or increase if you need more and continue.
7. When you’re done, click Finish to complete the Virtual machine creation.
Step 2: Boot Up and Install Windows 7 (8, 10)
1. Now that the Virtual machine is created and the install disc or ISO image is added, click the green start button to boot up the Virtual machine.
3. Windows should automatically install, reboot and give you the options to create a username/password and have you sign in.
Step 3: Sign on to Windows 10
1. After the installation and setup process, sign in and the first thing you want to do is to install VMware Guest Tools. To do that, click VM –> Install VMware Tools… as shown in the image below.
2. Windows 7 (8, 10) should load the virtual disk drive with the installer. If it doesn’t open automatically, go to File Explorer and launch the installer. Follow the wizard to install.
3. That’s it! This is how to create VMware guest machine and install Windows 10.
